Which type is True Collagen?

True Collagen is comprised of bovine types I & III. Type I is the most prevalent type of collagen in the body, and is found in your hair, skin, nails, tendons, organs and bones. Type III is found in cartilage and bone marrow.

What is True Collagen Powder made from?

Our Collagen is 100% natural and sourced from bovine collagen peptides, a naturally occurring protein found in the bones, cartilage, tissue and hides of cows.

What is the difference between collagen and whey protein?

While whey protein is a complete protein source derived from cows' milk, collagen is sourced from bovine compounds such as ligaments and hide. While collagen is slightly higher in protein content than whey, it has a lower BCAA content and therefore may be slightly less effective than whey for muscle protein synthesis. We recommend taking collagen in addition to whey protein to ensure you get the complete amino acid profile.

Should I use collagen protein for muscle bulking, or lean muscle growth? 

Collagen has a lower BCAA content and therefore may be slightly less effective than whey for muscle protein synthesis. Therefore it is recommended that this is a secondary protein for these purposes. Try our WPI, WPC or Plant Protein blends for muscle bulking or lean muscle growth.

Is True Collagen dairy free and vegan?

True Collagen is dairy free as it does not contain lactose. However, it is not vegetarian or vegan as it is sourced from bovine compounds. This is because, just as humans do, animals have collagen in their connective tissues. Eating products sourced from animals provides the highest concentration of collagen.

Why do I need to supplement collagen?

Our body's production of collagen slows down as we grow. By age 25, levels of collagen have peaked and begin to slow. By supplementing collagen, we do not necessarily add to collagen stores in the body, but rather stimulate its ability to synthesise it. Can collagen replace my whey protein supplement?

We suggest True Collagen to be supplemented alongside your True Whey Protein. True Collagen does not boast an equivalent amino acid profile to WPC80 or WPI90. These amino acids, including the three BCAAs leucine, isoleucine and valine, are essential for muscle growth and recovery.

How is True Collagen flavoured?

All of True's supplements are naturally flavoured. We have sweetened our Collagen with stevia, which is derived naturally from a plant grown in South America and is around 200-300 times sweeter than sugar without the calories. We therefore only need very small quantities of this naturally produced sweetener to flavour our protein powders. Our in-house development team has pushed the boundaries of natural flavouring to develop completely unique flavours that contain no artificial ingredients or additives whilst maintaining a fantastic natural taste. Can I cook with True Collagen?

Can I use True Collagen in my coffee?

True Collagen is heat stable, so it's perfect to add to hot drinks without the integrity of the molecules being compromised. For best results in your coffee, we recommend not to add your collagen to any drinks or meals containing dairy milk.

Can I use True Collagen while pregnant?

We don't recommend using this product if you're pregnant. It's best to check with your doctor before taking any supplements during this time.

I noticed True Collagen has 125% of the recommended daily intake for Vitamin C. Is it safe to consume / is more than one serve safe?

Recommended daily intake (RDI) is the sufficient amount to avoid vitamin C deficiency for most adults. 50-100mg Vitamin C from 1-2 serves of collagen is safe and well tolerated for healthy adults.

Is True Collagen halal suitable?

Yes, True Collagen + Vitamin C is halal suitable.

Is True Collagen suitable for a ketogenic diet?

While there is no official regulatory definition for a ketogenic diet, it typically involves limiting daily carbohydrate intake to around 30–50 grams. True Collagen contains up to 0.5g of carbs per serve, which is within the commonly accepted guidelines for keto-friendly products.
