Proudly Plastic Scoop-Free: Removing 8.2 Tonnes of Single-Use Plastic 

In 2023, we made the decision to go plastic scoop-free, a change driven by valuable feedback from our customers and our ongoing efforts to improve. While plastic scoops offer convenience, we recognised they’re not essential, and the environmental benefits of removing them far outweigh the convenience they provide.

  • Meaningful Impact: This initiative alone removes 8.2 tonnes of plastic from our supply chain each year, reinforcing our promise to Be Better. 
  • Ease of Use: Our packaging has been updated to reflect this and clearly states exact weight (grams) and universal metric measurements (tsp & tbsp). 
  • Sustainable Alternatives: If you don't already own measuring utensils, we recommend our True Stainless Steel Scoop Set. These use standard metric measurements and can be used for all True products as well as everyday cooking.

Why We Use Satchels 

We have transitioned our products from plastic and metal tins back to satchels. It is important to note that while our satchels are not currently recyclable due to strict food safety requirements, they remain our preferred choice for several reasons: 

  • Better Freshness and Food Safety: Some products, such as PRE, are hydrophilic (attracts moisture). Satchels are best suited to protect these products from humidity and clumping. 
  • Reduced Transit Damage: Satchels are sturdier and more travel-friendly than tins, ensuring products like Greens arrive in perfect condition without the need for excess protective packaging like bubble wrap. 
  • Lower Resource Use: Satchels use far fewer resources to produce compared to the plastic and metal tins previously used. 

We are always on the hunt for more sustainable packaging options. We remain committed to following developments in material science to find eco-friendly solutions that meet our rigorous standards for food safety and product protection as they become viable in Australia. 

Why Our New Protein Shakes Use Plastic Bottles

When we developed our All Natural Protein Shakes, our priority was clear: create a 100% natural, preservative-free shake that stays stable on the shelf. 

To achieve this, we chose a specific food-grade plastic bottle that provides the airtight seal necessary to keep a natural liquid product safe. By using this high-quality barrier, we can completely avoid the use of artificial preservatives or chemical stabilisers.  

Our bottles are 100% recyclable and are eligible for Return and Earn programs. You can either place them in your household recycling bin or return them to a local collection point to give the bottle a second life and receive your 10c reward.

New Machinery & Production Capacity 

We’ve invested in a brand-new piece of machinery for our in-house manufacturing facility. While we could previously manufacture 10 bags of protein per minute, our new Food Manufacturing Engineering (FME) machine can produce up to 40. This ensures your favourite products are always in stock and ready for you to enjoy.

How do I measure my product accurately?  

Every product includes its exact weight in grams and metric measurements on the packaging. Our product team uses high-precision analytical scales to ensure accuracy, whereas standard kitchen scales can sometimes vary. For the best results, we recommend using standard measuring spoons or our Stainless Steel Scoops.

Is True Protein packaging recyclable?  

Our new Protein Shake bottles are 100% recyclable. However, our powder satchels are not currently recyclable. We chose them because they use fewer resources than tubs and provide the best protection for our natural ingredients.

Why did you remove plastic scoops?  

Driven by customer feedback and our commitment to sustainability, this change removes 8.2 tonnes of single-use plastic from our supply chain annually. It is a small but important step in our journey to be more environmentally responsible.
