FAQs

What are the health benefits of matcha tea?

Matcha powder is rich in antioxidants and in fact, has much higher levels than many other foods commonly recognised for their antioxidant properties. For example, matcha contains 7 times more antioxidants than dark chocolate and 60 times more than spinach! Matcha can be helpful as an energy booster, detoxifier and it can also assist with boosting your memory. Numerous studies have suggested matcha can boost your metabolism and subsequently help with weightloss.

What is the best way to drink matcha?

The simplest way to drink matcha is to mix a scoop into hot water and stir well. If you leave it for a long time the powder may settle on the bottom of the cup. You can also try making a matcha latte or stirring it into ice cream. Matcha flavoured ice cream is a popular flavour in Japan!

I’ve never tried matcha, what can I expect when I drink it?

Matcha green tea powder is bright green in colour and quite bitter to drink. If you find the flavour too intense, you can add a little sweetener, such as honey. You could also try making it into a matcha latte, which will lessen the intensity of the flavour. You may find after drinking matcha for a while, you can get accustomed to the taste.

Is there caffeine in matcha green tea?

Because it is made from crushed whole tea leaves, matcha contains about half the amount of caffeine you would find in a cup of black coffee and considerably more than a regular cup of tea.

How is matcha different from regular green tea?

When you consume matcha, you are drinking the whole leaf as opposed to regular green tea, where the leaves are steeped in hot water but the leaf is not consumed. Because of this, matcha is said to contain up to ten times the nutritional value of standard loose leaf green tea.

Where does matcha originate from and how is it used?

Matcha green tea originates from Japan, where it is traditionally been used in tea ceremony for over 1,000 years. During the tea ceremony ritual, the bitter taste of matcha is offset by eating a traditional Japanese sweet called “kasha”. The matcha tea itself is made in a bowl by adding hot water to the powder, then mixing with a bamboo whisk, called a “chasen”.

Where is your matcha sourced from?

True MATCHA is sourced from a leading Japanese producer who supplies us with premium grade matcha green tea leaves. When you buy True MATCHA, you can rest assured you are buying a high quality product.

How do I make a matcha latte?

A matcha latte is a great alternative to your regular coffee, and the vibrant green colour will stimulate your senses! Here’s how:
1. Add a scoop of True Matcha powder to a cup, mug or bowl.
2. Add a little hot water and whisk until the powder is completely dissolved.
3. Warm your choice of milk (regular, almond, coconut, soy, etc), then whisk to create froth. Otherwise use an automatic milk frother if you have one, or whisk using an immersion blender.
4. Add the milk to the matcha to combine and enjoy!
