Maca (lepidium meyenii) is a plant found high in the Andes of Peru, and its health benefits are extensive – from increased fertility in both men and women to improvements in energy, mood and hormone balance. A superfood, this root vegetable is packed with nutrients, protein, phytonutrients and fibre.

Maca contains eight essential amino acids, over 20 amino acids and fatty acids. It also boasts minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and zinc, and Vitamins B1, B2 and B3, C (133% of the RDI!) and E.

Plant compounds called ‘flavonoids’ contained in Maca are partly responsible for its ability to enhance your mood. It has even been linked to reduction in anxiety levels! Among all these benefits Maca is also a great energy boost, and doesn’t give you the jitters like a big hit of caffeine does!
