What is the difference between MCT oil and coconut oil?

MCT, or Medium-chain Triglycerides, is a type of saturated fatty acid derived from coconuts. However, it differs from standard coconut oil as coconut oil contains multiple strains of fats, whereas MCT oil contains only MCTs. MCTs make up approximately 62% of the fatty acids found in coconut oil while MCT oil is a concentrated form of purely MCTs, so the main difference between the two products is the concentration.

What is MCT oil made from?

MCT oil is a highly concentrated source of MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides). It is man-made by extracting MCTs from coconut oil through a process called fractionation. During this process two naturally derived fatty acids: C8 (caprylic – to convert into ketones more efficiently) and C10 (capric – best for endurance and mental performance) are extracted and separated from the rest of the fats.

What is MCT oil for?

MCT oil is beneficial for naturally fuelling your workout. MCTs contain between six and 12 carbon chains, a shorter chain than many other fat sources which helps the body to absorb them more rapidly for an immediate source of energy, instead of storing them as fat in the body.
