Interview with Amy Lee Active

Amy Lee Active has come on board to the True Protein Team as our first female meal prepper to help our female followers achieve their fitness goals!

We thought it would be interesting to ask Amy a few questions about her fitness journey, to see how she started her career as a health and wellness blogger. It is important to remember that everyone starts somewhere and that it is always the right time to take that next turn into the health and wellness lifestyle.

How did you get involved/interested in fitness and wellness?

When I was in school, I was the complete opposite of fitness and wellness! I'd do anything to get out of Physical Education classes at school, including faking illness, forging notes from my parents, faking period pain, anything to get me out of doing anything remotely physical. My favourite fast food was McDonald's; luckily my high school boyfriend's family owned a few outlets so this definitely encouraged my trips to the golden arches! My high school friends were always tipping that at our 20-year reunion I was going to be on The Biggest Loser.

It clicked in the first year of uni, I realized I needed to eat better and start moving, so I joined a gym, researched weight training, and nutrition in depth, and fell in love with the endorphin rush of a workout and the feeling of nourishing your body!

What does your daily routine look like? How do you organise yourself to include fitness in your day to day life?

I love mixing it up, every day is different. Lately, I've started incorporating cardio in the form of fasted walks most mornings, whilst getting another task done at the same time, such as socializing and walking with a friend, or picking up parcels from the Post office or going grocery shopping. The extra necessary task motivates me to get up early! Then I do 45min to 1 hr of resistance training after breakfast and lunch.

What’s your favourite exercise?

Deadlifts, for strengthening my core and back, an essential especially if you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer.

What type of fitness are you involved in?

Routine resistance training and yoga once a week.

What are your favourite go-to healthy snacks and meals?

Roasted and activated nuts, stevia-sweetened chocolate, berries!

What are your non–negotiables when it comes to your diet?

I go to a lot of brunch events in the foodie Mecca that is Melbourne, so I'd consider that an indulgence! I love ordering fritters or pancakes.

What type of supplements do you take to help achieve your fitness goals?

True Protein chocolate whey protein and BCAAs if I'm training fasted!

Are there any tips you could give the ladies and gentlemen out there who are trying to lead a healthier life and perhaps lose some weight?

Consistency is the key to breaking bad habits and forming good ones. Take every day as it comes and focus on the positives you achieved to stay motivated. The first few days are the hardest, but whatever you're trying to achieve just know it will soon become a habit.
