True Protein 3 Points Challenge 2018

The first day of summer was definitely not a disappointment with temperatures hitting the early 30’s and keen beachgoers taking to the ocean for the 2018 3 Points Challenge fuelled by True Protein. The 3 Points Challenge is the ultimate beach festival which celebrates the love of ocean sport, comradery and the battle between physical and mental strength. 3 Points Challenge mixes board paddlers, beach sprinters, and ocean swimmers into the one festival with over $10,000 worth of prizes to be won.

Hosted on North Curl Curl Beach nestled amongst the Northern Beaches Dee Why and Freshwater Beach, 3 Points Challenge truly encapsulates the Australian beach culture and healthy happy lifestyle of living along the greatest stretch of coastline the world has to offer. The usual easy-come-easy-go nature of North Curl Curl was transformed into a playground of fluorescent orange rashie-baring competitors. True Protein sponsored the early risers at 8am for the True Paddlers Challenge all the way through to the 1pm Hydrothon which involved competitors from the ages of 8 and upwards.

The aim of the 3 Points Challenge is to test even the fittest of competitors in a race of endurance, stamina and beach agility. Each race began in front of the North Curl Curl Lifesaving Clubhouse where the commentators tent supplied all competition rules and summer tunes for the day. On the beach sand, the True Protein team supplied samplers of the WPI90 and WPC80 famous salted caramel, choc peanut and vanilla protein shakes. The True Protein media wall supplied hours of fun for all competitors to share in a selfie with many of the sponsored athletes who came to compete or a cheeky Boomerang for a chance to be in the running for an array of True merchandise prizes.

With the sun on the upward incline and the steady turquoise tide pulling in the bluebottles, a few of the swim courses had to be altered to ensure the safety of all competitors. By 10:30am all competitors were hyped and ready to launch into the most anticipated race of the entire festival, the True 3 Points Challenge. All competitors gathered eagerly by the shoreline listening to the echoing coo of the commentators detailing the rules and guidelines to the ultimate beach event. Starting with a 400-metre swim from the North Curl Curl Lifesaving Clubhouse and out into the eternal blue, the competitors were to then swim around the inflatable True buoys and back into the beach. From here, competitors started the 1500-metre run along the south end of the beach taking the sand dune route entering South Curl Curl Beach. Once at South Curl Curl, another 300-metre swim awaits the competitors. The most scenic part of the challenge follows with a 1000-metre long run across the rock face path to Freshwater Beach. The second last leg is a quick 200-metre splash at Freshwater Beach and then a dash back to North Curl Curl. Once competitors hit the sand, it is shoes off and the final 200-metre sprint across the True Protein finish line.

The 2018 True 3 Points Challenge saw the top 3 men complete the challenge in around the 40-45-minute mark. Congratulations to Nathan Breen in first place, Nuru Somi in second place and Conor Sproule in third place. The top females were not too far behind with Emma Jeffcoat as first place female in at 51 minutes, Grace Musgrove placing second with 53 minutes and in third place with a time of 54 minutes was Greta Truscott. A full list of the top 3 male and female competitors across all challenges from the day can be found on the Multisport Australia website here.

A massive thank you to North Curl Curl Surf Lifesaving Club and all volunteers who kept all participants safe and hydrated on the day. We hope all competitors gave it their all and True Protein is looking forward to seeing you next year at the 2019 3 Points Challenge.
