A new year a better version of you. It is essential to have personal goals for your body, mind, and profession. Working towards goals is a healthy way to keep improving yourself throughout life. It has been scientifically proven that it’s in our human nature to need a sense of purpose.

1. Eat Healthy

Whatever your goals are for 2017 eating healthy should be a top priority. Why? Because your food is your main source of energy, vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function at its best. Healthy eating can help you avoid illnesses, especially during winter months. Try to be conscious of what you are putting in your body this year by either keeping a food diary, introducing more foods that come straight from the earth or reducing the number of foods in your diet that are packaged or have preservatives in them.

This year try to reduce your unhealthy eating habits and replace them with healthier options. A slow and steady approach is best not sudden drastic changes. Make changes to your diet that are sustainable. For example, the most effective approach is to slowly phase out refined sugars and fast foods.

2. Exercise More

Introduce more exercise into your daily routine this year! Once you feel the rush of endorphins you won’t be as eager to skip the gym. Exercise is essential to maintaining a healthy body and mind. If you want to have healthy bones, muscles, skin, hair and heart exercise is your medicine.  The benefits of regular exercise are endless from reducing heart disease, diabetes, and improved brain functionality amongst many others. We know exercise is good for us yet several of us really struggle to get out there and do it.  Everyone starts somewhere so remember the starting is the most challenge part of exercising.

The most common reason is “I don’t have time to exercise”. This may be true for some, however, try to make time even if it is only 20 minutes a day. Wake up 20 minutes earlier and do a work out on your living room floor. Try to have walking meetings, walk on your lunch break, try to walk to work or get off one station earlier and walk the rest. Every little bit of effort put in daily will increase your over health.
It is important to remember that we only get one body and one chance at taking care of it, so treat your body as well as you possibly can. Once you start exercising you will feel better which will support a positive mind, increase your self-esteem, and you will start to feel and look even better. Whatever your fitness goals may be as your increase your exercise levels remember it is important to replenish your body through the use of sports nutrition supplements.

Avoid yo-yo dieting and dieting all together, simply make healthier choices but don’t become fixated on calorie counting because that will create a stressful state of mind.

Being aware of what you are putting into your body is essential to your health. Jessica Sepel leading nutritionist says that you cannot be a mindful eater if you are a dieter because you are so fixated on what you should  or shouldn’t eat that it results in anxiety and guilt around food.
The impact of stress on your body causes it to hold onto the food when your mind thinks you’re eating a “naughty” or “forbidden” food and this complicated relationship is detrimental to your gut health. When your body associates certain food or eating with stress or anxiety, your digestive system shuts off , the cortisol levels spike and this affects your blood sugar balance and your sleep, creating a nasty rollercoaster of emotions for your body.

5. Positive Thinking

Positive thoughts can really nurture your body, health, and improve your overall happiness. Try to minimize the stressful contributors in your life. Take time to relax, meditate, or stop and breathe for 10 minutes a day to give you a moment to reflect. If you take the time to reflect and think about what you are grateful for because you can’t feel stressed when you feel grateful. Small and simple changes can make a world of difference in your state of mind.
Surround yourself with good like-minded people. Have positive people in your life that make you happy and feel at peace. They say you are the sum of the 5 people you spend most of your time with as it’s important for these people to have a positive impact on your life.

Don’t be too harsh on yourself, be kind and reasonable with all your resolutions for 2017. You deserve to be less critical of yourself and be more positive which will leave you in a happier state. Loving yourself is a cheesy thing to say but it is important to do.  Love your body, your mind, and who you are otherwise all other aspects of your life become extremely challenging.  Hopefully, these 5 resolutions will help you achieve your 2017 goals.
