CrossFit Athletic aren’t shy of a competition – with two individuals and a team heading to the Games this year, the excitement is palpable! The team have been training hard with individual programs and intense outdoor team sessions for many hours a day. We managed to squeeze in a quick chat with the team before they head off for the excitement of Carson.

How long have you been training with a CrossFit Affiliate? Just under 2 years.

What is your biggest achievement so far? Placing 34th in the 2015 Open.

Have you competed at the CrossFit Games before? No. This was my first Regionals and will be my first Games.

Describe your overall nutrition. My nutrition is pretty good. I eat clean every day, 4-5 meals a day. I have the occasional bad snack like an ice-cream if that’s what I feel like.  And then use True Protein products between every meal.

What role do supplements play for you? A massive role. I use them for breakfast, pre-workout, intra-workout, post-workout and as snacks. I also use products like the True Protein Greens Powder for general health and well-being.

What is your go-to supplement? I have two. The Ajinomoto BCAAs and the True Endurance.

What are you hoping to achieve and most looking forward to at the Games? I’m really looking forward to competing alongside the other CrossFit Athletic team members. I think the experience of going over with the team will drive me to also make it as an individual. Ultimately I’m hoping we’ll achieve podium but I also want to execute my game plan to the best of my abilities and get some PBs.

How long have you been training with a CrossFit Affiliate? Just over 2 years.

What is your biggest achievement so far? Winning the Regionals and going to the Games in 2014 – we came 11th in the world.

Have you competed at the CrossFit Games before? Yes, last year.

Describe your overall nutrition. Pretty balanced. I don’t really stick to any diets I just eat what I think my body needs. I eat fairly healthily majority of the time with a mix of protein, carbs and fats. I also drink a lot of water. I will eat a pizza or a burger if I feel like it though.

What role do supplements play for you? I go through stages with supplements, for a while I wasn’t taking a huge amount but I have gotten back into them with True Protein and I’m really liking it. I’m not really into the whey supplements, but I have BCAAs, Glutamine and True Endurance throughout and post training. I also take Magnesium before bed.

What is your go-to supplement? BCAAs.

What are you hoping to achieve and most looking forward to at the Games? Hoping to achieve a pretty good finish. And I’m really looking forward to being involved in the Games again with the experience of last time behind me. I know what to expect a bit more this time so will be purely focused on the competition, with less distractions.

How long have you been training with a CrossFit Affiliate? 18 months

What is your biggest achievement so far? Firstly making the team for Regionals, and definitely making the Games.

Have you competed at the CrossFit Games before? No, this is my first competing season.

Describe your overall nutrition. Fairly good. I’m pretty particular with what I eat. I’m pretty close to Paleo, but not super strict with what I eat. I’ll usually have the Oats and Whey at breakfast and then the Pre (True Pre) and Post (True Post) every session. I also have BCAAs and Glutamine.

What role do supplements play for you? A massive part. I wouldn’t be able to push as hard without them. I think they play a vital role – alongside good nutrition.

What is your go-to supplement? The True Post. I got through it like it’s going out of fashion! It really picks you back up off the ground after a workout.

What are you hoping to achieve and most looking forward to at the Games? I’m hoping to go out and do our best and get off to a good start – without putting too much pressure on ourselves. And I’m really looking forward to the beach event and getting underway with the whole experience.

What role do supplements play for you? They play a big role as they are really important for my rest and recovery.

What is your go-to supplement? The True Post. I use it every time after I train.

What are you hoping to achieve and most looking forward to at the Games? I’m hoping our team will be competitive with the top 10 teams and I’m really looking forward to just being out there and competing with my friends that I have been training with.

How long have you been training with a CrossFit Affiliate? I started CrossFit in 2009, but then focused purely on weightlifting for a few years. I started training at CrossFit again in November 2014.

What is your biggest achievement so far? Going to the Games with the team this year. I went to the Games as an individual in 2010 but the Games have changed so much since then.

Have you competed at the CrossFit Games before? Yes but only individually. This is my first time as a team.

Describe your overall nutrition. I usually go with the 80% / 20% element. I try to eat pretty clean during the week but do indulge a little on weekends. During the week I’m fairly close to Paleo but I do have dairy. I try to have a pretty balanced approach and am not too strict on myself. In terms of supplements I’ll have Glutamine daily, Whey Protein after every workout and the Endurance during a session. I also have the pre-workout (True Pre) before some workouts.

What role do supplements play for you? At the moment they are really helping me energy-wise as our sessions are quite long. I think they are also really important for fuelling the body after a session.

What is your go-to supplement? True Endurance. I love it – and really love the flavour of it too.

What are you hoping to achieve and most looking forward to at the Games? As a team I’m hoping for good communication and that we perform well as a team. I’m really looking forward to all the different elements – competing on the beach and in the arena. I love the beach as I come from a Surf Life Saving background. I’m also just looking forward to the whole atmosphere over there.
